Yes, I Love Technology

Isn't the internet so amazing?
**
I remember when we first got dial up AOL service at my parent's house as a teen.
I used to love that sound when it started up.
Sometimes I'd stay up late at night to AOL instant message my crush.
I HATED when I forgot to turn down the volume.
If I had to re-connect I always got busted staying up too late.

We've come a long ways since those days technologically speaking...
but I'm still a little behind the loop.
I still have a Razor flip-phone thingy.
I really need to be *unplugged* sometimes so a computer on my phone would be no bueno.

The internet really has been a life-saver and changer for me, though.
I completed I'd say about half of my college studies through online courses.
I *re-met* Ryan through the internet. (MySpace...long story...for another time)
I do a lot of my legal research through the internet.
I communicate with friends and family through emails and facebook.
My family might starve if I didn't have the internet to look up amazing recipes.
MUSIC is soo easy to access with Youtube and other sites.
We've sought out a lot of gardnening and DIY tutorials through the internet.
Oh yes...and I blog, obviously. ;)

But now I'm diving off the deep end.
I Joined TWITTER.
For me...
Twitter is sort of like the Harry Potter series.
I swore for years that adults getting into HP was a little ridic.
Until I read the first book myself.
Twitter always sounded a bit crazy too me, too.
(I think it's the actual word *twitter*)
(what is twitter. what is tweet?)
The other day I just wanted to see what the fuss was about.
So I created an account.
So if you desire to follow me, I would LOVE it.
Right now it's sort of like dead space out there.
I'm afraid to type anything because I hear crickets.
Plus I never understood text abbreviations so twitter speak looks a little alienish to me.
It would be super fun if you follow me so I can follow you.
Let's tweet.
or
twitter.
or
twhistle while we work.
Or whatever you prefer to call it.
(or click the twitter logo to your right)
(at the top)
(the one with rainbows)
(you're probably not quite as computer illiterate as me)
(so you probably didn't need this guidance)

Yes, I Love Technology

"Why do you love me?
Why do you need me?
Always and Forever
We met in a chat room
Now our love can fully bloom
Sure the World Wide Web is great
But you, you make me salivate
Yes i love technology
But not as much as you, you see
But i still love technology
Always and Forever
Our love is like a flock of doves
Flying off to heaven above
Always and Forever
Always and Forever"

I feel the same way about Twitter. I've been on there a few months now and I still don't really get it. I'm heading over to follow you though. :-)

Haha!! I felt the same way about the dial-up!!! I'd always stay up way to late on AIM.

And I love that you posted that clip of Kip from Napoleon Dynamite! =] LOVE!

I must say I am behind the times though... I still don't have twitter!

I just started with the twitter thing this month. I'm still getting used to it. I always kind of felt like it was pointless since I had facebook and it seemed like twitter was no different than posting a facebook status. Anyway, I've found it's pretty cool to use it to keep up with the blogging community so I like it for that. :)

Also, I do not miss dial up internet... no siiiiree! It is amazing how far technology has come, though!

You're braver than me - I don't think I can handle twitter ;)

Ahh. I used to love the sound of AOL connecting. Does AOL even exist anymore??
Facebook and Blogs consume my life. I can spend all my time stalking/reading. I'm pretty out of control. I'm glad you love the internet...especially blogging.
I might not have commented much this week, but I still read your blog. I'm addicted to your fun, crafty life!! :)

I swore I wouldn't join Facebook for the longest time...but I broke. What's a life without Facebook anyway?! Happy Friday :)

I'm sorry, but I refuse to drink the Twitter Kool-Aid!

I held off forever on getting a smart phone, but I finally did last spring and I love it. It's more than I like paying for a cell phone bill, but its argument-settling capability is PRICELESS! When D and I are out now and start arguing over who sings what song or who played in what movie, I can now prove him wrong immediately instead of waiting until we get home to look it up!

LOL, takin' it back to the days of dialup and AOL! Soooo much reminiscing there!

I didn't think I'd ever join Twitter either, and here I am! It's not too shabby. :)

Technology is great... when it works! I don't know what I'd do without the internet.

Bahahaha, I used to get myself in trouble with dial-up too! And a MSN Messenger / Napster addiction... the good ole days, hey?!

we got married 10 years ago and on our honeymoon neither of us even had a cell phone! Insane!!!
I have a twitter account I never use...I would seriously go off the deep end with my carpal tunnel if I spend any more time on the computer...
Good luck with the Twit!

Hooray for twitter--I added you, mine is @TiffanyNico

Oh god, I remember that noise, we got the internet when I was 16 and thats when my obsession came into play. I've never done the whole college classes online thing though, I dont know if I'd be able to though, I'm kinda old school and want to be in a classroom!

I got through High School without any internet or even a computer. It was the mid 80's, and the only computer at school was for the "geeks".

I don't think I will join the Twitter thing. I just don't have anything interesting to say! And, blogging takes up a lot of time already. I would never clean my house or even take a shower if I added one more techy thing to my life!

I LOVE that Napoleon Dynamite video!

I used to get so annoyed with dial-up noises if it wasn't connected and just kept making noises at me.

That's so funny---I remember the days of dial-up too. My friend's family had it first, and we lived in such a small town that it was a long-distance call!

My first real encounter with interest usage regularly was in college, and I loved it right away! I actually did my master's and PhD both online, and now I teach online too...so I'm not sure I could live without it :)

I gotcha on twitter already!

i just don't *get* twitter, I guess. Isn't it just like FB but only 'status updates'?

I'm sure someday I'll create an account... but let us know how you like it!

And I totally remember the late-night chat rooms with boys I was crushing on. And dial-up? So old school!

Somehow I have avoided Twitter. Probably a good thing since I already spend too much time on blogs and facebook. :)

Hi there! First time commenter!
I've been on twitter for a year and never got into it much. Its kind of stressful and this might make me sound like a bitch but I don't really care about one's "twitter" status. plus, the phrase "tweet" just annoys me.
Anyhow, I totally remember that aol internet sound! I dont really miss it but it is rather nostalgic!

Amanda@runninghood said...

oh, the dial up...too funny...your writing made me completely feel like was there again...I could hear it! :) Twitter? Oh NO, you didn't sell yourself to the tweeting twits!!! :) ha! I won't say never but that is one thing I have yet to do. I have never read the Harry Potter books either. I know, I know, I'm a disgrace to teachers everywhere. :) If I was on twitter, I'd follow you. :) I love your "I hear crickets" part.

I loved that AOL sound too. I remember we got AOL when I was a junior in high school. I thought it was so cool.

I'll follow you on twitter.

I love your list of all the reasons you love the internet - it's really hard to imagine life without it these days! I'm still afraid of Twitter. I don't really know what I'm doing.
