Time Test Tuesdays

The first goal I set was to:
Take 1 min off of my 5k time.
My first 5k for 2011 will be in April.
(P.S.  I mentioned that I was trying the other day for a personal 3 mile treadmill PR)
(I got close...but didn't quite beat it)
(Still 27:26)

This coming weekend I will be running a 3 mile race.
Close...but not exactly the same distance.
And...it was 5 degrees here today.
So this should be interesting.
Wish me luck!

The second goal I set was to:
PR @ Dam2Dam
Dam2Dam is a local race.
12.4 miles
So not quite a half marathon distance.
It is in June.
I hope to start training the first of March.
I am super pumped about training this year!
The third goal I set was to:
Run an 8 Minute Mile
Guess What?
I did it!
I'm very aware that for most runners this would not be acceptable.
But I am ME.
So this ruled.
I can't wait to get even faster.
The fourth goal I set was to:
Involve My Kids with Running
Well...it IS winter here.
But they do love the Wii Fit Plus running games.
And they haven't learned the secret trick.
If you stand still and move your wrist.
It still thinks you're running.
If only races were that easy.

The fifth goal I set was to:
Run More Races
The Red Flannel Race I'm running this weekend is new to me!
That counts!
I'm also looking forward to the spring and what it brings.
I am even toying with the idea of an official half in November.
It will be my last year in my 20's.
The year I turn 30 I'll run a marathon.

The sixth goal I set was to:
Get Up On Those Toes
I have definitely been doing this.
It makes me feel lighter.
Anything that makes me less aware of my jiggle is cool with me.
I still have to get back down on my feet during long runs, though.
When I get tired, I make myself *toe it up* during the choruses.
I'll keep working on this.

The seventh goal I set was to:
Smash My Dad in 2011
Holy crap you guys.
I guess my Dad is on a MISSION.
To say he has been motivated might be quite the understatement.
He has been literally running his ass off.
Like 27 pounds of it in January.
Although I'm sure it was from more than just his ass.

 Should I be NERVOUS? :)

I want to set ONE more goal for myself.
Each Week...
Each week I will focus on my mile time.
During training this might mean adding additional miles after the mile.
But for now it means busting my butt.
Every Tuesday & then telling you guys about it.
I think it will help me stay motivated.

As of today my fastest mile time is: 8:01.
How fast can I do it today?

What about you?
What are some of your running/fitness goals?
Anybody got any fun races coming up?

OK, I must admit you are the first blog i am reading this morning before finishing my coffee (while sick with bronchitis) and thought "this is too much to read right now" and "boy that's a lot of goals" HAHA BUT...no, seriously, those are GREAT GOALS!! and I think this would be a good series addition to your ol' bloggy. =)

Def be nervous! Your dad is ROCKING IT!

I might save your turtle graphic to use later, mkay?

My running goals? Well, im just trying to finish my first 5k training program and get my first 5k under my belt. So, right now, just distance. Then i'll work on speed. ;)

Wow you are doing great with your goals!! I was just thinking about my Feb. goals and how I'm doing good with some and not so good with others.

I love the idea of time test Tuesday, awesome :D

I have a 2 mile (actually 3k) race coming up and I have 2 weeks to get some serious speed for it!

You're doing a great job meeting your goals! And I think it's a great idea to do time test tuesdays... it will be a good way to get some speedwork in!
I'm also interested in how you're going to involve your kids more in running. That's definitely been a goal of mine and we have varying success.
Keep up the great work!

Running an 8 minute mile is awesome! I need to set goals like this so I have something to keep working for. Good luck on your run today! : )

I LOVE your goals! Especially the one about your kids... it is my DREAM that one day I will have kids who get excited about "running with Mom".

My goal would be to run more races too. I run by myself alllll the time but have always avoided races because of how crowded they can be. I need to get over that!

Hey! Thanks for your comment on my 3 tangent Tues- VERY funny (my friends and I would play that Bryan Adams song over and over on our tape deck- lots of rewinding there....) I'm excited to read more of your blog- it looks great!

You're a running machine! ahhh this is so inspiring! I think you made me want to go for a run today =)

My goal is mainly to run 2-3 times a week or MORE! and to increase my distance past 1.5 miles. I'm a little weakling. haha!

Good luck with the races/goals/ and that weather! brr!

I love your goals! I think it's so important to set running goals or we can get comfortable just trotting along. This post made me realize it's time to push myself and get some goals down on paper (or the blog)! Congrats on the 8:01 mile - that is awesome! And I think your Tuesdays will keep you motivated for sure.

I think your goals are great. I knew I wanted to run a marathon before I was 35. I did it! I didn't set any really specific time goals this year. I have things I want to work on to get faster and build endurance. I'm running my second marathon and think I can run this one in under 4 hours. I'm going to enter my first duathlon, so that should be fun. I'd like to do a tri as well, so that is something I am working towards. I like to mix it up and keep it fresh. :)

Good luck on your race this weekend!
I really really want to run a 2 hour half marathon. It didn't exactly happen last weekend, so I'll give it another try in 3 weeks. :-)

Great goals! :) Love this idea for your Tuesday posts. :) I'd love to break 19 min in the 5k someday when I'm training for one. I'd love to break 1:30 in the half and PR in my marathon.

Yay for Dad! Looks like you better watch out---27 lbs is serious business :)

You have awesome goals---I love reading updates!

I have a whole health campaign brewing up in my head right now--I can't wait to get started next week and feel more focused and like I have something to work toward.
Good luck with your goals!

8 minute mile.... you go girl! I have a TON of goals at well! Goals are good they keep us on our feet:)!

Lisa said...

congratulations on your 8 minute mile! that's awesome!! i've been playing around with my speed lately as well--kind of fun to see how far you can push yourself. and, then it makes coming back to your "normal" pace seem like such a breeze! so, i can see how speed work can really improve your overall running. keep it up!

i'm considering a half this year as well--maybe two? and i'm running a 44 mile relay race with an 8-10 person team from one brewery to another. woohoo! running and beer!!

Briana said...

Good job with your 8 min/mile! And never compare yourself to other runners because it'll just drive you crazy!!

Keep it up! Great goals!

I raced soooo much for a few years there that I burned myself out on always 'training' for something. I took all of last year off from racing and just ran for fun and it was the best thing I could've done for my running! Now I'm excited again about racing!!

Good luck with your upcoming race!

Congrats on the 8 minute mile! That is great!
5 degrees? WOW. I don't know how you run outside in that kind of weather. I shiver when it is in the 30's.
Thanks for sharing your goals. It makes me want to write my new fitness goals down and to set new ones.
